Arabic Studio

Five free youtube lessons for beginners with a particular focus on pronunciation. Includes free downloadable textbook.

Qasid Online

26 detailed tutorials on the Arabic script each focusing on one or two letters.


Speaking

Arabian Sinbad

Immersive animated video series primarily designed for children (but no reason why adults can't use it too!). Lots of free samples on youtube with main series + accompanying material available to purchase.

Learn Arabic with Maha

Popular series of youtube tutorial mainly focusing on practical spoken Arabic.

EU Arabic Online

A very well designed EU funded Arabic language course which is also available in a number of other European languages.

Madinah Arabic

Some lessons are still under construction but this Islamic website offers a free traditional online Arabic course.

Learn Arabic with Laura
A variety of youtube Arabic lessons, some of which accompany the Madina book series.

BYKI Flashcards

Hundreds of free electronic flashcards to download with accompanying audio. You can use this free software to keep track of your progress.

Arabic Private Tutor 

Vocabulary clearly pronounced on video with pictures and English translation.

Arabic Class  

Online Arabic picture dictionary with vocabulary arranged by topic.


Textbooks

Gateway to Arabic Series

Organised well structured book series starting from scratch and progressing till advanced level. Mainly focusing on grammar and vocabulary. Accompanying flashcards, CDs and posters available. Books 1 and 2 of this series contain essential material for any Arabic learner. There's also a separate series aimed at children called 'Arabic Without Tears'.

 

Iqra Arabic Programme

Another excellent book series starting from pre-school level (Arabic Alphabet Activity Book) and ending with advanced level Arabic grammar. Designed originally as school textbooks with accompanying workbooks (US Style) but very useful for adult learners also nonetheless.


G&W Arabic Books (Includes Mastering Arabic series)


Particular focus on practical spoken Arabic. Teaches Modern Standard Arabic but with occasional transgression into dialect. Perfect for those studying for GCSE Arabic.


Media and Business Arabic

Foreigncy

Contemporary news articles in Arabic with flashcards containing the key vocabulary news terms clearly pronounced with English translation. This is the place to go if you want to understand the news in Arabic!


Basic Arabic for Business

Another EU funded multimedia course focusing mainly on travel and business Arabic. You can do this course in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish or Italian. 


Understanding the Quran


The Quranic Arabic Corpus 

Word by word analysis of the entire Quran maintained and updated by Leeds University. Invaluable resource for anyone studying the Quran.


Tajweed in English (and French) 

Full Tajweed course starting from scratch.

GCSE LEVEL COURSE STARTING SEPTEMBER 2013!

Great news! WEA will also be running an additional new 10 week Arabic course for adults starting in September 2013 which will take place at the Clovelly Centre, Clovelly Road, Southampton. 

 

Advanced Arabic  (Tuesdays 7-9pm - Starting 17th September 2013)


This is a GCSE -level course suitable for those who have studied Arabic part-time for at least a year are confident reading and writing.  Students who are interested may apply to sit the GCSE Arabic language exam in May 2014.

Fees and Concessions

Adults over 18- £79 (TBC)

Adults on (income related) benefits - Free!!

NEW BEGINNERS COURSE STARTING SEPTEMBER 2013!



There will be a new 10 week Arabic course for adult beginners starting in September 2013 which will take place at the Clovelly Centre, Clovelly Road, Southampton.

Beginners (Wednesdays 7-9pm - Starting 18th September 2013)


This course is suitable for those with no previous knowledge of the Arabic language or those who have some familiarity with the script but are unable to understand what they are reading.

This course is suitable for those who comfortable reading the Arabic script who have already had some basic grounding in the principles of Arabic grammar. Basic grammar will be revised and a variety of conversation topics will be discussed at a pre-GCSE/ GCSE level.
